Understanding Sensation vs. Pain
“Not all strong sensation is harm. Some sensations are simply information that hasn’t moved in a long time.”
We differentiate between:
Communicative sensation (pressure, intensity, heat, stretch, release)
Protective pain (sharp, tearing, joint instability, loss of control)
When the body has been quiet for a long time. When circulation and nerve signaling return, it can feel intense—like waking up a limb that’s been asleep.
This is not injury. It is reconnection.
Clients are always encouraged to:
Breathe
Communicate
Adjust intensity
Stay present
